clacks on cobbles

My shadow walks a ways ahead of me
In tippy-toes toward my tomorrow
As daylight settles in beside the lee
So sets sentiment's sad sorrow

My echo resonates behind my back
In leather clacks on cobbles
It does it best to keep on track
As is skitters, hops, and wobbles

My heartbeat hums inside its cage
Like a ruby-throated sparrow
Its only thought is to turn the page
Awake to you again tomorrow
